With over 12 years in the healthcare field, Roland utilizes the relationship between the client and therapist to facilitate forward growth and healing, with the goal of becoming the best version of themselves. Roland uses a variety of therapeutic approaches, including experiential and reality-based approaches to highlight implementing changes in the here & now. As a big proponent of creating connections, Roland makes the therapy setting conversational and comfortable to promote safety and collaboration in the therapeutic space.
Roland particularly loves working with the aromantic and asexual community, young adults experiencing delayed independence (previously termed "failure to launch"), ethical non-monogamy/poly relationships and curiosity, queer veterans and military members and their families, those with people pleasing tendencies, the gay male population, and people wanting to work on improving their abilities to self-advocate and empower themselves. He also works with anxiety, depression, trauma, other LGBTQIA+ issues, spirituality/religious trauma (or "church hurt"), & other men's issues. He has a special passion for working with gender diverse populations who have come out earlier in life and has extensive experience working with cis, het individuals and adolescents (14+) as well.
Roland is currently completing his training on Holistic Herbalist certification, and loves working with natural, homeopathic and somatic based healing solutions.
Roland is currently accepting new clients in person in his office in Arlington, VA or via telehealth anywhere in Virginia. Book a consult on our website below or email him at roland@lgbtcounselingdmv.com.
Chloe Goldbach, PhD and Roland Scheppske, LPC are leading an ongoing process group for anyone 18+ years old who identifies on the asexual or aromantic spectrums. To join, email roland@lgbtcounselingdmv.com.
Roland believes that the aromantic and asexual demographic of the queer community is vastly underserved and underrepresented. He wants to be a place that clients can feel accepted, embraced, and work through the impact of their orientation and identity on their lives and relationships.
Roland is currently enrolling clients in a weekly process group focused on the asexual and aromantic community on every other Tuesday evening in person. Please email to join!
Roland is a recovering people-pleaser and aims to help others learn to empower and advocate for themselves, too. People-pleasing is often a learned behavior, originating from childhood experiences and social conditioning, and therapy can help reframe thinking, change patterned behaviors, and learn to individuate oneself.
Roland has lived experience working around military members and their families, and has a passion for working with queer veterans. With a deep understanding of trauma, PTSD, and other relevant mental health issues with military personnel and re-acclimating to civilian life, Roland loves helping queer military persons and their families.
Roland loves working with young adults who have struggled or are struggling with independence and individuality outside of their family of origin. This can include activities of daily living, confidence, phase of life problems, family of origin healing, and relationship skills building work. He has experience working with ages 14+.
