Our couples and partners counseling services are designed to help you and your partner(s) overcome interpersonal challenges and achieve your goals together. Our clinicians offer a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you and your partner(s) can explore your thoughts and feelings, gain insights into your behavior, and develop strategies for positive change in the relationship.
Before seeking counseling, check with your insurance company about out of network reimbursement. Ask the following questions:
1. What is my out of network deductible?
2. What percentage is reimbursed before and then after that deductible is hit?
3. What is the specific reimbursement/coverage for CPT code 90847 (couples counseling)?
We specialize in helping couples and partnerships in which sexuality and/or gender is fluid, transitioning, or being explored by one or multiple parts of the couple. Gender and sexuality is a lifelong journey, so it makes sense that our life partners would be on the exploration with us. Sometimes this can cause friction or tension, and we're here to help people figure out how to manage those changes and/or if they want to.
We also work with families working on changing dynamics, including parents transitioning genders/sexualities, or bringing in additional partners. This includes families who are working on discernment, divorce, or separation. We assist queer families in practicing child-centered separations and divorces, including utilizing nesting models of coparenting and other amicable coparenting styles. Polyamory and other types of relationship styles can also be done in healthy ways with assistance from professional support systems, like a therapist.
Historically, premarital counseling has been gatekeeped by religious entities and not accessible to queer partners. The divorce rate for the LGBT population is consistent with the cishet population at 50%, and therefore it is important that the same premarital counseling and assistance is offered to everyone equally.
We offer a 17 page, 2 hour premarital assessment through SYMBIS and review that covers all topics including extended family, finances, sex, domestic work/chores, personality differences, conflict resolution, communication styles, and more.
Many of our clinicians are also parents and are passionate about working with that population to best strategize parenting methods, coping skills and emotional regulation, and co-parenting with former spouses or partners and/or their new partners. We work with parents to help focused on child-centered parenting and/or co-parenting during separation or divorce that focuses on what's best for the children and the family as a whole. We specialize in nesting models and other amicable coparenting models.
All of our clinicians support and are affirming of any type of partnership, including aromantic partners, polyamorous and ethical non-monogamy based partnerships, and those in the sex worker community. Relationship dynamics can be difficult no matter how the relationship is set up, and we're here to help you figure out those dynamics.
Not every partnership is meant to go the distance, and we're here to help people work on deciding whether or not they want to move together in a relationship. We also offer support and guidance to people as they explore and navigate break ups, divorce, and/or co-parenting relationships. We utilize child-centered divorce techniques and promote familial amicability whenever possible. In scenarios where that is not possible or not safe, we work on promoting healing and individual wholeness.
