Daniel Choppa, LGPC (he/him) is a licensed graduate professional counselor based in Washington, D.C. and Virginia who is dedicated to providing affirming, trauma-informed care for individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds and identities. Daniel’s goal is to collaborate with his clients to seek clarity, connection, and a safe space to be seen and understood within the therapy room. With a foundation rooted in extensive education, deep empathy, and genuine curiosity, Daniel creates a warm and collaborative therapeutic environment—especially for LGBTQIA2S+ clients, trauma survivors (complex, chronic, and acute), and those navigating intricate personal relationships, or exploring their identities and how those intersect within their lives and connections with others.
Daniel utilizes an integrative approach, drawing from psychodynamic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Narrative Therapy to address the unique needs of each client. His experience spans various relationship styles and stages, enabling him to support individuals and couples in their unique journeys toward growth. He has a passion for working with couples in both traditional and non-traditional relationships to find their healthiest, and most successful way of relating with one another. He also has multiple years of experience in community mental health settings and group private practices, successfully guiding past clients through challenges such as anxiety, ADHD/AuDHD, grief and bereavement, anger management and exploration, mood disorders, self-esteem issues, chronic medical challenges, and HIV-related concerns.
Daniel identifies as a gay, cis male therapist living with HIV which allows him to possess a profound understanding of life transitions and the pursuit of fulfillment in the complex world we share. In his down time, he enjoys time outdoors, reading fantasy and adventure novels and manga, going to the movies, video games, downhill skiing and spending time with friends and family.
Daniel is currently accepting new Washington, DC and VA based individual clients or couples/partners via telehealth or in person in Arlington, VA. They work with individuals 18+ years old, couples/partners, including non-traditional relationships, and families.
