Meet dr. tyler farrell, phd (THEY/THEM)

Psychologist

With over 8+ years of experience, Dr. Tyler Farrell, Ph.D. (they/them) is a collaborative and compassion-oriented psychotherapist who truly values the inner wisdom and strength their clients bring to the therapy work. Tyler received their M.A. in Clinical Psychology at Sam Houston State University, and their Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri – Kansas City. Their graduate thesis was on empowerment-based clinical practices and interventions for transgender and gender non-conforming clients. They appreciate balancing true, authentic acceptance of their clients with the opportunity and capacity for change, while helping build resilience, self-esteem, personal acceptance, and compassion in clients. They also seek to work collaboratively alongside clients to bring greater awareness, personal growth, and true authenticity into their lives, including working with other providers and through multi-disciplinary approaches.

Tyler enjoys working with a variety of client concerns, specializing in LGBTQIA2S+ issues and intersectionality, relationships difficulties, systemic and other forms of marginalized trauma, attachment style work, anxiety, depression, and academic/career concerns. Their therapeutic approach is eclectic and integrates tenants of mindfulness, feminist multicultural, cognitive-behavioral, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness and somatic body work, and interpersonal processing.

Tyler is accepting new MD and VA based individual clients or couples/partners via telehealth or in person in Arlington, VA. They also run a therapy and support group for transgender individuals, which is accepting new members. They work with individuals 18+ years old, couples/partners, including non-traditional relationships, and families.

When not meeting with clients Tyler can be found spending time with their ginger cat, Aria (she/her), hiking, attempting to get better at Crossfit, introverting with plants, and otherwise challenging the status quo of harmful power dynamics.
