Yessenia Arias (she/her) is a bilingual, bisexual, Bolivian-American psychotherapist in Washington, D.C. and Virginia. She attended the College of William & Mary for her undergraduate degree and Boston College for her Masters in Mental Health Counseling. She was born and raised in Arlington VA and throughout her career has worked in the D.C. and the Northern Virginia area providing individual, group, and couples therapy in Spanish and English.
Recently, Yessenia has focused her practice on specializing in the immigrant community, the LGBTQIA2S+ community, survivors of domestic/interpersonal violence and sexual assault. She has experience addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, bullying, disordered eating, and stress with adults, teens, and children as young as 10+ years old. Her work with different non-profits has allowed her to gain extensive knowledge working with trauma, issues of acculturation, and identity.
Yessenia's therapeutic approach is eclectic, pulling from various treatment modalities to best fit the needs of her clients. She introduces tools ranging from mindfulness practices to understanding how to challenge your thinking through CBT approaches. She strives to build a strong and trusting relationship from which to generate honest and open spaces to explore and strengthen skills. Her priority is the client, allowing them to create the space to feel heard and respected.
As a therapist of color, Yessenia is a strong advocate for her clients and hopes to offer spaces for folx to explore aspects of their identities--in particular, parts which at times might feel in conflict or invalidating of who they are as a whole. Within her work with clients, Yessenia strives to empower individuals to recognize the value of their voice even when the rest of society does not.
Yessenia is currently taking new clients and couples on Monday evenings beginning March 3, 2025 in person or virtually in Arlington, VA.
