WELCOME TO THE LGBT+ Counseling COLLABORATIVE

Our Mission

The LGBT+ Counseling Collaborative mission is to provide culturally competent, social justice oriented, queer affirming, neurodiverse-informed, and trauma informed therapeutic services to clients who want to actively engage in healing and processing around personal history, generational cycles, and systemic issues with clinicians who have similar lived experiences and values.

Our Clinical Director, SC Nealy, was named the 2024 Humanitarian and Caring Person Award recipient from Virginia Counselors Association, Arlington County's 2025 Person of Vision Award, and the 2025 Queer Leaders Award from We Create Spaces  in conjunction with our advocacy work for the queer community. We also received the 2025 Best Business Award in Service from Arlington County's Chamber of Commerce.

Our Services

We offer a wide range of counseling services, including individual counseling, group counseling, couples and partner relationship counseling, neurodiverse affirming care, non-faith based premarital counseling, sex therapy, perinatal mental health care for birthing persons, gender affirming care, religious trauma deconstruction or recovery, and more. We offer services in English and in Spanish, and at varying price ranges to promote accessibility.

Our Clients

We work with clients of any sex, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, neurodiversity, belief, etc over the age of 11+ years old, with some exceptions for younger clients. While we are passionate about serving the LGBT+ community, we are happy to work with people from any backgrounds and are trained and experienced in a vast variety of competencies, including many cisgender and heterosexual clients. We serve clients in person in the DMV area, or virtually across the country.

Our Fees

We do not accept insurance of any form and payment is due at the time of sessions. We send out monthly superbills that clients can submit to their insurance for reimbursement and most clients see a 40-80% reimbursement using that method. Our regular fees begin at $220 for 45 minute sessions and $260 for 60 minute relationship sessions for fully licensed counselors and our supervised residents in counseling starts at $185/session for clients. All of our counselors prioritize 20-25% of our case loads for sliding scale (pay-what-you-can) clients as we prioritize accessibility of mental health services.

Privacy & Safety Concerns

We take the safety and privacy of our clients to be of the utmost importance. There is no signage for our organization on the outside of our building or in the building lobby, nor is our address listed publicly. Our office door has an alarm that sounds with every entry.  We do not take insurance so as to maintain privacy concerns and not be forced to out clients in our documentation. All credit and debit card statements only say "Counseling Collab" on your bank statements. We also abide by the standard limits of confidentiality set forth by the APA and ACA.  We practice COVID-cautiousness by having high-powered air purifiers in each office and our waiting room, and masking is welcome for anyone who wants to.

Therapy Dog

(she/her - we think)

Elly is 12 years old, hypoallergenic, and just wants to sit next to you and take a nap while you pet her or ignore her completely. She's fine being on your lap, on the couch next to you, or across the room if you want space. She's usually in SC's office or hanging out in the waiting room, but can be available upon request.

Our Values Statement

Comprehensive Collaboration
Our team works uniquely together on all of our cases, including overlapping co-counseling of families, couples, and individuals as needed to best suit the client needs. For example, if one of our therapists is working with a couple, the individuals in the couple might be working with two other therapists at our practice, and then all three therapists will be actively working together to best suit the client needs. We also actively seek out consultation and partnerships with other organizations, medical providers, non-profits, and therapists to give our clients as much of a multi-disciplinary team approach as possible. Lastly, we value being team members and having coworkers we enjoy seeing every day and consulting with.

Accessibility

It's incredibly important to us that we're able to meet the needs of our clients in ways that are accessible to their needs, including addressing financial, safety, and privacy concerns. We work hard to offer 25% of our services to pro bono and sliding scale clients, while still making sure our therapists are able to make a living wage themselves. While we can't be everything for everyone, we do our best to meet the needs that we can and hold this as an important value.

Advocacy

Everyone on our team is dedicated to improving the lives of the LGBT+ population in Virginia and nationwide. We are actively involved in our community both by giving our time and money to causes and local movements that further this mission. We regularly meet with elected leaders and advocate for our client's needs on legislative levels, and make sure that our voices and our client's voices are heard.
