With over 15 years working in the mental health field, Brian Rink has his Master's degree in Clinical Social Work from Fordham University and has advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy and Gottman Method for couples therapy, as well as advanced training in Sex Therapy. Brian is also on the faculty of The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. At GWU, Brian teaches medical students about interviewing patients, psycho-social development, and counseling skills. He is also completing doctoral studies in Social Work at Barry University, Miami Shores, Florida.
With a person-centered, attachment-lens approach aimed at reframing hurtful narratives, exploring the mind/body connection, and improving communication and relational skills, Brians wants his clients to feel empowered to create and maintain strong support systems and positive internal self-narratives. He also specializes with the LGBTQ+ community and parenting.
Brian Rink currently specializes in queer issues, men's issues, body image and acceptance, depression/anxiety, religious trauma in the queer community, body based somatic work, religious trauma in relationships and childhood, religious trauma in the LGBTQ+ community, couples/partner counseling and sex therapy in LGBTQ+ relationships, couples counseling, disordered eating in men, and parenting issues, including co-parenting after separation.
Personally, Brian lives in Northern Virginia and is married with adult children and loves to volunteer for LGBT+ organizations to help provide resources to the community as much as possible.
He is currently has only limited availability for new VA or DC based clients over 18 years old via telehealth or in person in Arlington, VA and requests for relationship and couples counseling.
Brian employs a variety of therapeutic techniques, including talk therapy, cognitive-behavioral approaches, mindfulness, and homework exercises to address specific issues. Confidentiality and a non-judgmental environment are crucial components of sex therapy, creating a safe space for individuals and couples to explore and work through their concerns. Brian Rink runs a monthly 6 hour relationship attendance customized to the particular couple on a Saturday in person in Arlington, VA. Brian Rink will be leading a weekly in-person process group on Wednesday evenings for anyone identifying as male beginning September 18, 2024.
